Open International Competition

With the ambition to “conceive and create the new building of the future,” the Bauhaus movement became an influential force throughout the 20th century. This competition proposal is simultaneously a testament to the legacy of this institution and critical interpretation of its ideas for the realities of our times.

The the 52,000 sq. ft. program area is designed as a spacial counterpoint to the Bauhaus canon, with the goal to provoke patrons and visitors into a discourse about the history and the future of the arts and architecture.

The spatial organization is derived from an abstract interpretation of specific site elements and aims to challenge the surrounding urban context. The project draws on contemporary technological possibilities to create a sustainable environment intertwined with the adjacent park and open to the city.
